Rodolfo Santandrea

Rodolfo Santandrea, bass-barytone.

Born in Faenza, last student of V. Matteucci, as white voice, is specialized under the guide of the M° L.Ceroni who wants him as part of his orchestra, as professional guitar player and singer, when he's only 16; the organ player M.B. Brusa supplies him with the bases of the harmony.
In 1978 comes his first compositions and his first international experiences; He's sent from his Institute to Paris where he approaches the languages of the contemporary near the forum of “Les halles” and the Pompidou Center, forge of the artistic vanguard.
He enters the school of the composer A.Varotti, got the diploma to the Mastery of Institute “G. Ballardini” and continues the studies to the Academy of Belle Arti in Bologna. He travels in Yugoslavia, in Austria and in Germany, he moves to live to Pisa where he founds his first school. Later he does his first tour in Sicily and continues to travel: to London, in north England and Greece; He enters in the Roman School and he is moved to Rome.

After this first series of experiences he´s noticed from talent scout G. Ravera, participates to the competition “New Voices of Castrocaro Terme” and signs a contract as exclusive author for RCA/Fonit-Cetra.
In consequence he realizes as young producer the Q Disc of debut, the album “Santandrea” and makes one´s debut in RAI.
He is present to the "Silver Sail" of Riva of the Garda and participates to the Festival di San Remo, introducing the song “La Fenice” (The Phoenix), written four hands with R.Cocciante, “Prize of the journalistic Critic”. He publishes the album “Santandrea” and is guest of RAI International at the “European Top Star” of Knokke, in Belgium, where he has his first experience as master of concerts, and also as interpreter.
He starts a tournèe with the “Maurizio Costanzo show”, and after he gets the Parioli theatre.
His “Fenice” is produced from Raidue in video and is signature tune of the program "Mixer" of Gianni Minoli. He collaborates with Lilly Greco and M. Castelnuovo for RCA. He publishes “Ricordi e sogni del mio vescovo” (Memories and dreams of my bishop). Thanks to the frequentation of the studies: R.a.i, R.c.a and C.a.m and to the meetings and to the advises of E. Morricone, L. Werthmuller, to the collaboration with B. Camphor, B. Birìaco, M. Melato, P. Pravo and G. Ferri he characterizes himself in his initial composer way.

His career is abruptly interrupted from the military service.
Rodolfo asks for being made free from his contractual engagements with the roman editors, obtains a difficult liberation and signs with the publisher Ricordi of Milan.
He publishes the album“Aiutatemi, amo i delfini” (Help me, I love the dolphins), lyric and inner realized with the Room Orchestra of Romagna, directed by Rodolfo, and introduced at the "Disco per l'estate" (disc for the summer) of Saint Vincent.
He produces the first Video of “Un´arancia” (An orange - wonderful time)with the director R. Gligorov.
On next years he is supporter of Edoardo Bennato in the "Viva la Mamma Tour", with a route far away from the ideas of the conventional market, towards experiences of direct and personal contact with the public. After the participation to reviews and festival, and to several television transmissions, his first works are published from producers Fonit-Cetra and Ricordi of Milan.

Rodolfo continues the personal search mainly in the sector of electornic music, both cultured and usable, and proceed his own activity of composer, collaborating with Mazzesi publisher of Ravenna.
The album “Anni” (Years), collect songs realized from Santandrea and is present at the M.i.d.e.m of Cannès.
He participates at the Buskers' Festival of Ferrara and begins a series of Dante´s inspiration concerts in collaboration with the composer A. Varotti. The old Franciscan main father, vice president of the Filarmonica Academy of Bologna, guides and take him to Saint Mary of Ricci in Florence, to Avellana Source, to Cantiano, to Bologna, to Assisi and in all those places useful for his laborious spiritual renewal.

Meanwhile, Santandrea, seems to recommence from over again, improves himself to conservatory “B. Maderna” of Cesena, institution of high culture and make one´s debut in the opera house of tradition. He participates to the intense activities of the Rigoletto of G. Verdi at the Bonci Theatre, assumes the artistic direction of the Fellini Theatre and carries out auditions for several roles at the Comunale of Florence, at the Arena of Verona, the Comunale of Ferrara, the Scala Theatre of Milan. He begins a firm collaboration with the soprano R. De Ponte, R. Maetake, T. Otsuka, with the tenor R. Rodriguez and collaborates exclusively with musicians of rigorous classic formation.
In March 2000, at the Concordia Theatre, "Il Figaro" is his first work, which follows “The light of Dragon”, “Metamorphosis”, “the Ghost” “Dawn´s Birth”, “Pulcinella and the moon”, the collaboration with the Academy of Remoti, the production of “Amleto, in person” of Cabiria.

The sense of the art of Rodolfo Santandrea, finally, with the Mozart´s and Rossini´s interpretations matured between Florence and Venice and with his Venectian Comrade, has become pure scientific search that take him to have concerts successively till Tokyo from 1999 and again in France and Japan in 2002. In 2004 at “Ravenna Festival” like interpreter and musical adviser. In 2005 he leaves the direction of the Fellini, of which he is first artificer and founder, and dedicates himself exclusively to the concerts.
The 2006 still see him as interpreter of “The Telephone” of Giancarlo Menotti in Tokyo, and has concerts also in Osaka. In 2007 he directs “Missing from Osaka”, “The Opera of Pulcinella” and does recital and concerts in north Italy.
Of 2008 is the idea and the preparation de “The inner smile” in collaboration with the Japanese sculptor Mokichi Otsuka, the chorale Polifonica Malatestiana, the Comrade and the Balestra foundation, in the museum of contemporary art of the Malatesta Castle, also that the writing and the interpretation of “Notorius”, his first dramatic role that take the School to the Fraschini Theatre of Pavia.

Rodolfo is “Prize of the Critics” at the Sanremo Festival, “Prize of the Song of Author”, “Prize Silver Aerial”, “Faenza Music Awards”, “Prize of the Popular Song Molisana”, has been special guest at the “International Prize Astor Piazzolla” for its interpretation of “El dia che me quiera” of Carlos Gardèl. Many times guest in RAI and Mediaset at Pippo Baudo, Raffaella Carrà and Maurizio Costanzo beyond that in great part of the free tv and radios of the center and the north Italy.

Rodolfo counts various experimentations of theatre and music, has lived in the musical experience since the youth and he has found himself in contact with various kinds and drafts. Approaching the experimentation he has dedicated himself also to concrete music, computerized, to the use of the digital elements and of the possible spaces and the of the constructive effects of the most personal halo and sonorous bands. This individuality can be found in every his composition, interpretation or musical action.
Without arranged beforehand outlines, without resource to usual formulas he is extended until a research of a revelator specific consistency of his personality. In order to appreciate him at best urges to listen him live, in every concert, after almost thity years of career. Rodolfo still has the generous enthusiasm of the absolute begineer and he influences us with the semplicity and the disarming euphoria of every his gesture.
