La Fenice
Guance Bianche
(The Phoenix)
(White cheeks)

Fonit Cetra - 1984

La Fenice 45 RPM, published in the 1984 from the publisher Fonit Cetra (SP 1089 M 15930/31). It contains 2 tracks: side A the song "La Fenice" (The Phoenix), written 4 hands from Rodolfo Santandrea and Riccardo Cocciante, side B "Guance Bianche" (White Cheeks) of the single Santandrea. The agreements of both songs are by Amedeo Tommasi for the production of Monna Lisa.

The disc exits following the presentation of the main song during the edition of the San Remo Festival 1984. It was not easy for Santandrea to impress the screen, because of the models of reference of mass of the time (gained Albano and Romina " Ci sarà" for big and Eros - Rusty the Wild Ramazzotti " Terra promessa" for the young baby category in which La Fenice concurred). Rodolfo was introduced on the stage full of ointment and wearing a traditional dark dress, made vain from a showy necktie rose shocking; practically the crosbreed between the speaking cricket and several portraits about Napoleone Bonaparte.

Exceeded the image impact, sing easily La Fenice, fast and difficult song. Powerful interpretation, constructed on two registries of singing, light and lyric, for a festival that didn't understand the voice of Villa yet(present that year as a guest, but, like the others in contest, forced to the playback), but that still did not imagine the fortunes of Bocelli. The piece was liked from the journalists, which paid him with the prize of the critic, less to the charts, especially those festival ones which wanted his excluded from the finale.

The piece became part in the tradition, as soon as undertaken in Italy, of the experiments of contamination between various musical kinds. Points of reference for the Santandrea young person, more than the examples of Franco Battiato and the first Giuni Russo, are the German models, in particular the Queen of punk Nina Hagen and that univers of individuality that was Klaus Nomi, of who Rodolfo appreciates the album " Simple Man". The use of the voice and the ability to join lyric and rhytmic of these we find again in the Fenice.

The artistic way of stamp more properly singer-writer successively elaborated from Santandrea exits instead from the inserted piece like side B.
